OKANAGAN SCHOOL OF NATURAL HOOF CARE

Welcome to

We offer courses and workshops that encompass everything from classroom knowledge on anatomy and function to hands on guided trimming on our school horses or even your own horses. If you just want to learn to trim your own horses or want to pursue a career in hoof care, we have an avenue for everyone and every skill level.

Most of the standard hoof care organizations are based around training professionals, and while I do offer training for aspiring professionals via my Apprenticeship Program, my main focus is on teaching owners to care for and trim their own equines. While sometimes a professional is needed to asses and consult on a difficult or pathological case, I do believe that most owners can learn to adequately trim and maintain their own horses with the right education. I focus on teaching the anatomy and function first, followed by evaluating hoof health and pathology, and finally tool use and actually applying all of this theory and knowledge to the hoof via the trim. Learning what not to trim is just as important as knowing what to take off, and every rasp stroke is important. Students must also recognize that continuing education is a must, as our learning never ends, it just becomes more advanced and allows us to see more of the whole horse picture. We offer continued education via our Virtual Classroom, where students can submit pictures and case studies, participate in group discussions and join our monthly topic meetings where we deep dive a specific hoof/trim related topic.

Big Changes Coming in 2026!

Starting in 2026, I’ll be moving away from my traditional 5 day course format and instead offering:

3 Day Hands-On Trimming Courses
2 Day Composite Shoe Application Courses (run consecutively with select 3 day trim courses)

This split format will give students more flexibility and make it easier for people to choose what fits their goals and schedule best and booking a 3 Day trim clinic and 2 Day Glue-On Shoe clinic back to back will result in the same 5 day experience we previously offered!

This year I am adding a couple of travelling trimming days per month to various locales in the Okanagan. As most of you know I have only been offering trimming at our campus for the last few years, and I will continue to do so, however I want to expand my therapeutic and glue on shoe practice and be able to reach more horses and people! I also have a few apprentices shadowing me this coming year and want to make sure they are exposed to new horses and clients.

Please note that this option is very limited as I can only allocate 1-2 days per month for this venture. Preference will be given to multiple horses or clients in a single location to ease travel requirements. At the moment I am planning a Vernon/Coldstream/Lumby day, and potentially a day to the South Okanagan as far as Summerland. I could also add a Kelowna and surrounding area day if there were enough horses to fill it.
Reach out if you are interested! My service price list is on the website here

There will be no travel fees as I will only be travelling for multiple clients so that I can fill my day. Contact me for more info.
