Meet Our Herd
#horsesofoksnhc

All of the animals in our care are barefoot or transitioning to be barefoot. Some are rehab cases; some are riding horses, and some are just here to live out their days. All of them have come into our lives for a purpose and they are instrumental in helping us to teach students both how to trim and how to connect with horses on a deeper level.

Tango
Tango is a 16 year old Missouri Fox Trotter. She has the nicest feet of our entire herd and mostly self trims her hind hooves as they wear very evenly and require little maintenance. Last year I took up endurance riding (fun rides) with Tango and for the rides she wears Easyshoe One Stickys. Tango is one of my favorite riding horses as her gait is incredibly smooth and she is always willing to try her heart out.

Jack
Jack is a 20 year old Welsh Pony x QH. He has been in our family for years and has helped our daughters learn to ride. Jack was previously insulin resistant, but proper diet and exercise have helped him recover and maintain a great body condition. In spite of his previous IR he does have beautiful strong and healthy hooves. Last year Jack explored endurance fun rides with my daughter and routinely had amazing vet scores for a pony his age! He is truly amazing and is always the first one to meet you at the gate! You can view more info on Jack here.

Hawk
Hawk is a 9 year old wildie that was rounded up in 2021 from the South Okanagan area. He has some the strongest and thickest hoof wall I have ever seen! Over the last two years I worked on saddle training with Hawk, but he has made it pretty clear that is not his path. He has extreme saddle anxiety and I wouldn't be surprised if he were a rodeo bronc horse in his younger years. Because of his bucking tendencies Hawk is destined to just hang out and be a handsome member of our herd. My new goal is to see if I can teach him to pull the arena harrow as it is very hard to keep him fit with his wild metabolism and lack of riding.

Dixie

Dixie is a quarter horse that came to us for rehab with a severe hoof crack. We fell in love with her character and personality and made her owner promise that if she ever sold her, she would let us know. Low and behold a year after healing her hoof crack and sending her home, her owner called and told us we could buy her and bring her back. Dixie is one of our family riding horses, she is probably one of our most versatile horses. To view the case study about her hoof crack, click here.

Sparrow and Indigo

Sparrow is a 3 year old wildie from the South Okanagan that we purchased in August of 2025. She is a paint, and will be training to be a riding horse for my daughter to do endurance on. Sparrow is incredibly bold and confident, and is one of those horses that people might say were "born broke". She handles everything in stride and has a very curious personality. She is quite stalky, and her DNA testing came back Clydesdale x QH.

Indigo, (Indy) is a 2 year old grey Quarter Horse that we purchased on an online auction in April of 2025. When she came to us she was completely feral and had never had her feet trimmed. She is in training to become a riding horse, but is very sensitive, and so we are moving at a slower pace with her as she adjusts to being handled. Indy is incredibly sensitive and thoughtful, she really likes to use her brain and tends to get lost in her thoughts. Since learning to be haltered Indy is always the first one at the gate to meet me and volunteer to come out and play.
